Alright, I did not do so hot at this last year. I ignored
the warning signs and went with my gut, which is always a fatal error in the
predicting game. If it looks like a winner and talks like a winner, it is
probably the winner. This year, I am throwing my lot in with the blockbuster
epic to win it all by a couple touchdowns.
If you have followed the site this month, you know that
movie is The Revenant. It is a big,
artsy statement by a well respected director and features not just the best
crafts of the year but the most, which is always a plus with this group. I am
unsure how wise it is to predict something that has never happened – a filmmaker
directing back-to-back Best Picture winners – but it feels like this is the
year to throw out the past and embrace the now. The movie of “the now” just
happens to be a survivalist revenge saga set in the American pioneer days. Go
figure.
